Heroes Timeline

by: Hector

Last nights episode of Heroes rocked. I love how even though this was a “throw away” episode that didn’t really fit in with the main plot it did give us some information that pertains to the story. The time traveling in this episode got a bit tricky and my roommates originally thought there was a plot hole because if Claire was saved, Sylar shouldn’t of been able to regenerate. The thing is that there are actually 3 different timelines that you have to be aware of.

  • Original Timeline - This is the timeline that Future Hiro is from and where he stabbed Sylar
  • “Five Years Gone” Timeline - This is the timeline Future Hiro came back to after he told Peter to save the cheerleader. The events of the latest episode “Five Years Gone” takes place here.
  • “Heroes” Timeline - This is the timeline that we have all been watching on TV pretty much all season long.

After Future Hiro delivered his message to Peter he arrived in a new timeline where Claire is still alive. Unfortunately saving Claire was not enough to stop the bomb because as we all know it was Peter who exploded not Sylar.

The information is strictly from the TV episodes and the online novel which is considered canonical.

So when Hiro returns to the future, it changes to the new timeline. So in the new timeline Claire doesn’t die so Syler doesn’t steal her powers. So wouldn’t Sylar be dead in the new timeline since he gets stabbed regardless. It will probably happen within the next three episodes (hopefully) but I’m thinking he should already be dead. I guess they wanted to include him in the story. Am I missing something here or did I find the loophole? Maybe Hiro didn’t know he had to stab Sylar after Peter saved the Claire.

Hiro does not stab Sylar until the same day NY explodes.

Hiro couldn’t have stabbed Sylar in the “Five Years Gone” timeline because he traveled five years in to the future so for five years he basically didn’t exist. So, at first we were in the “Original” timeline, then when “future” Hiro tells Peter to save Claire we were in the “Five Years Gone” timeline (even though we didn’t know it then), and now that “current” Hiro has come back from the future we are in what is called the “Heroes” timeline above.

When Hiro went back for the first time (to save the memory chick), it didn’t change the sequence of events at all. It seems that there is only one timeline, and at every discrete moment all future input has been calculated in advance. (When Hiro disappeared Ando already has the pic of Hiro on the wall.)
In the previous episode Future Hiro tried to kill the Exploding Man and thought it was Sylar. Because the exploding man healed himself, Hiro also thought that he should have killed Clair. (The truth is that Peter exploded. Clair is saved.) So Hiro went back with the message “Save the Cheerleader” to Peter in the Subway.

There is an issue. How can Future Hiro go back and meet Peter in two different timelines, unless timelines are branching at some time after the event.
